Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar: Hollywood

Occ Hollywood Lip Tar

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is a 100% vegan and they preach cruelty free products and are also internationally certified by PETA. You can purchase their legendary lip tars from www.occmakeup.com for $18/£12 plus shipping and you get 0.33oz/9.35grams of Lip tar that will last you a life time. Alternatively like myself you can order from www.cocktailcosmetics.co.uk where they sell these bad boys for £11.95 and £3.50 postage. Cocktail Cosmetics have a great range of lip tars, not every shade but most of them and they also restock really quickly as well as getting the new collection stock pronto.
Swatches of Hollywood
Okay so the lip tar I’m reviewing today is called Hollywood and she’s described as a ‘beige/gold metallic shimmer’ although if you apply her lightly over a nude lip liner or bare lips she does take on a peachy hue. All Lip tars have a minty smell and taste because they are formulated with peppermint oil, personally I prefer mint to sickly sweet smells so this is a bonus. Sadly though due to the mint it is not advised you use Lip Tars on or around the eyes, if you want to though do it with extreme care.

Lips tars come in a squeezy clear tube that reminds me of artists paint and have a tiny nozzle top, they are packed into a transparent wallet so you can view of the shades without having to swatch. Inside the wallet there is also a little card with instructions (I advise you follow them closely) and a mini lip brush.

OCC Lips tars at first are a bit tricky to use, the most common mistake made is to add too much product to the lips and then it starts to bleed terribly. Honestly Less is more, it may sound crazy that a single bead can colour your lips but that’s the magic of a lip tar. Just remember to follow the instructions they provide and nothing will go wrong.
Apply the tiniest bead of Lip Tar with our newly-included #010S Short-Handled Precision Lip Brush for complete, opaque coverage, either mixed with other shades or on its own.
PRO TIP: LIP TAR: MATTE™ is best applied over properly moisturized and primed lips. LIP TAR: PRIMER insures an optimal application.

Hollywood used as a highlight on top of Lydia lip tar
Hollywood for me is glamorous highlight shade that adds depth to any shade, if you blend it into the centre of your lips you get THE most stunning pouty effect. Personally for me it is a little too pale to be used as an all over shade, it would look amazing on a rich dark skin tone, especially in the summer. Hollywood tends to fade after a few hours with me, leaving behind the faintest trace of shimmer. I really like this new style lip tar, I’m hoping to get my hands on Pleasure model too as that looks like a pink based highlight.

Do you have any problems using them?

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid lipstick in Spicy.

Anastasia Beverly Hills is a brand that has a lot of Hype behind then over the internet, and to be honest they deserve it tenfold.  On the 7th January 2015 they launched their Liquid lipsticks that became a hit across the globe pretty much over night. You can purchase any of the 20 shades directly from www.anastasiabeverlyhills.com for $20 a pop, but the international shipping is horribly expensive, or I purchased all of mine from www.rosesbeautystore.com who is based in the UK and sell them for £22 each plus £2 shipping and they arrived within 4 days without a hefty customs fee.   Alternatively you could try buying through eBay, but the prices are inflated, you can’t guarantee they aren't already tested or genuine etc.

Spicy, Carina, Retro Coral

The tube they come in is very simple and elegant, giving you a clear view of the colour and they are a nice size too, not too thin that they seem breakable and not too long that they are unable to fit in a makeup bag. The applicator brush is probably the best I have ever used, it’s nice and long with a little bit of bend with small fibres so you can achieve a nice crisp line and a wide coverage in just one sweep, no more faffing around with different lip brushes.

The shade I’m reviewing today is called Spicy and she is a bright bold orange red which dry’s velvety matte. I have noticed with all ABH lip tars they dry a little darker than they look in the tube, which in this case I was SO thankful for as she reminded me of Chicken Tikka curry sauce (Not necessarily a bad thing…)when I first got her out the box.

When Spicy is actually on my lips it is a really stunning bright red that makes my lips look so plump and full! I literally have sex doll lips XD. I have read a lot of negative reviews from people regarding the texture of these, I think they have a really soft feel to them, almost velvety which is pretty rare for a matte lipstain and as a result these feel light and dreamy to wear! They are non drying and last a good 5 hours before needing a touch up, but of course their biggest weakness is grease/oil.

Have any of you managed to get your hands on these?

The applicator brush is probably the best I have ever used, it’s nice and long with a little bit of bend with small fibres so you can achieve a nice crisp line and a wide coverage in just one sweep, no more faffing around with different lip brushes.

The shade I’m reviewing today is called Carina and she is a deep Cerise shade which dry’s velvety matte. I have noticed with all ABH lip tars they dry a little darker than they look in the tube. Carina is a little bit of an Odd shade. Depending on the lighting she can look a light natural pink, a deep cerise or a coral pink. Either way it’s beautiful but a little unpredictable! You would think it would look really strong on my skin tone would you??

Carina was a bit of a surprise shade for me, I was unsure if it would even suit me when I bought it! Thanks to the colour shifting pink it does look incredible and I’m glad I did actually get it. Again I have read a lot of negative reviews from people regarding the texture of these, I think they have a really soft feel to them, almost velvety which is pretty rare for a matte lipstain and as a result these feel light and dreamy to wear! Kat Von D everlasting Liquid Lipstick: Backstage Bambi

This brand is a Sephora exclusive and only typically available in the US bar a few exceptions. The Liquid lipstick retails for $19 (roughly £13) and contains 0.22oz/6.23gram of product. There is a choice of 12 colours in the range you can choose from either online at www.sephora.com or in store (although most stores I visited while in the states were low/out of the most popular shades. Alternatively these can be purchased on eBay but at a stupidly inflated price.
Backstage Bambi in natural light
Backstage Bambi is described on the website as ‘vivid hot pink’ and I have to agree this is a really accurate description of the colour in the tube, although I find on my really light skin it looks like a soft bright pink, not quite a hot pink.
Oh man I find this wonky sticker painful!!
The packaging I think is perfect! They come in long, but perfectly handbag sized tubes that are crystal clear so you can get a really great look at the colour of each shade, unlike other well-known brands that used frosted glass so it’s really hard to tell the true colour and get a decent photo. (Rant over!) The tube is decorated with stunning ornate swirls and shiny silver roses that give it a super sexy gothic look. Would you expect anything less from their delicious creator Miss Kat Von D?
Backstage Bambi on lips.

Unlike the majority of the other shades in the range this colour does have an actual scent to it, its subtle and as soon as the shade dries the smell goes away. As for the actual smell, its neither sweet or chemical, its literally just a mild mysterious scent. This colour is extremely smooth to apply, like the rest a very thin layer is applied to the lips but its best you do apply in even layers across the lips to avoid patches. This colour dries fast (that sucks for me as I like to apply my colours slowly to make sure I get the best lip shape) to an ultra matte finish that feels light on your lips.

Backstage Bambi is a truly resistant colour, when it’s on your lips you had better believe its staying there for hours! As I mentioned earlier this shade can go a little patchy, especially if you have to re-apply over a patch you missed during your first layer or a faded spot after a few hours wear, The lesson is try to get it perfect first time, which is easier said than done at times! I find if you do have to fill in a patch or sharpen a lip line the best thing to use is a small, fine angled eyeliner brush to give precise application and a crisp lip line.

I found Backstage Bambi to last 9 hours before it started to fade in the centre of my lips. This shade is one tough cookie, it doesn’t transfer at all once dry, and it resisted hot drinks and food with ease! I must say though after about 4 hours it did feel a little drying on my lips. The only thing I find that removes this brand decently at the end of the day is LUSH lip scrub with added coconut oil, If you use a wipe your more likely to make your lips sore and stain your face.
KVD Liquid lipstick comparison swatches.
I’m really surprised I’m saying this but I really like this colour! Usually I avoid candy pink tones as the make me look like a deathly pale Barbie doll, but Backstage Bambi is lush, it’s just warm enough to say it would suit every skin tone. Kat Von D has really nailed this product, honestly this is my favourite liquid lipstick formula to date. She has some kick ass colours on offer and I’m sure she will release even better ones! *Rumour has it she will be re-releasing Bow & Arrow sometime in 2015*.

Do you guys own any of these liquid lipsticks? What’s your view on them?

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar: Authentic

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is a 100% vegan and they preach cruelty free products and are also internationally certified by PETA. You can purchase their legendary lip tars from www.occmakeup.com for $18/£12 plus shipping and you get 0.33oz/9.35grams of Lip tar that will last you a life time. Cocktail Cosmetics have a great range of lip tars, not every shade but most of them and they also restock really quickly as well as getting the new collection stock pronto.

Okay so the lip tar I’m reviewing today is called Authentic and she’s described as a ‘Bronze copper frost’ although I would describe it as a spiced pumpkin latte or a pumpkin pie sort of shade ( If you get what I mean! ), everything about it seems all warming and Autumnal.

All Lip tars have a minty smell and taste because they are formulated with peppermint oil, personally I prefer mint to sickly sweet smells so this is a bonus. Sadly though due to the mint it is not advised you use Lip Tars on or around the eyes, if you want to though do it with extreme care.

Slight Patchiness that occurs before the lip tar 'sets'
Authentic is my favourite Season in a tube, it’s a bright warm coppery orange that just adds warmth to your whole face when applied. I’m a little unsure on how it looks against my skin tone but I’m still going to give this baby a go. The only issue I have with this shade as you can see in a few pictures is that it does go a little patchy in places until the gloss starts to dry. Apart from that minor issue its another great product from OCC.

Which Lip Tars do you own?

Kat Von D Everlasting liquid lipstick: Bachelorette

This brand is a Sephora exclusive and only typically available in the US bar a few exceptions. The Liquid lipstick retails for $19 (roughly £13) and contains 0.22oz/6.23gram of product. There is a choice of 12 colours in the range you can choose from either online at www.sephora.com or in store (although most stores I visited while in the states were low/out of the most popular shades. Alternatively these can be purchased on eBay but at a stupidly inflated price.
Bachelorette in natural light

Bachelorette  is described on the website as ‘Dark reddish fuchsia’ and I have to agree this is a really accurate description of the colour in the tube, although I find on my really light skin it looks like a very light red with a mild pink undertone.

Bachelorette on Lips
I think this colour is nearly scentless much like most of the other shades in this collection which I think is a real positive. This colour is extremely smooth to apply, like the rest a very thin layer is applied to the lips but its best you do apply in even layers across the lips to avoid patches. This colour dries fast (that sucks for me as I like to apply my colours slowly to make sure I get the best lip shape) BUT unlike the others that dry to a completely matte finish and texture, Bachelorette dries to a matte finish, but its texture stays slightly sticky.

Bachelorette again is a truly resistant colour after the stickiness wears off, when it’s on your lips you had better believe its staying there for hours! As I mentioned earlier this brand can go a little patchy, especially if you have to re-apply over a patch you missed during your first layer or a faded spot after a few hours wear, The lesson is try to get it perfect first time, which is easier said than done at times! I find if you do have to fill in a patch or sharpen a lip line the best thing to use is a small, fine angled eyeliner brush to give precise application and a crisp lip line.

I found Bachelorette to last 8 hours before it started to come off in flakes and patches around the inner corner of my lips. Because of the ‘stickiness’ of this shade it did transfer onto glasses and mugs easily for the first hour until the sticky layer had eventually been removed by the contact. The only thing I find that removes this brand decently at the end of the day is LUSH lip scrub with added coconut oil, If you use a wipe your more likely to make your lips sore and stain your face.
Comparison of KVD Liquid lipsticks
I adore this brand, I’m just going to throw that out there! Okay so this exact shade has a few setbacks unlike the other shades in the range but they are nothing major! Personally I’m not overly fond of this colour, I think it’s a good red, but still just a red. Apart from that Kat Von D has really nailed this product, honestly this is STILL my favourite liquid lipstick formula to date.  She has some kick ass colours on offer and I’m sure she will release even better ones! *Rumour has it she will be re-releasing Bow & Arrow sometime in 2015*.

Do you guys own any of these liquid lipsticks? What’s your view on them?

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar and Pencil: Lydia.

OCC Lydia lip tar and pencil.

Alrighty then, step right up! Today I’m going to be talking about a fantastic Brand called Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (I’m going to abbreviate to OCC from now on as it takes so long to type!) which was created in New York City in 2004 by the ingenious David Klasfeld. I actually met him at IMATS London I think it was 2013(?) when I went up to the booth and started talking to him and one of the helpers (by accident As soon as I recognised him I started to fan girl and go stupidly shy for some stupid reason!) He was a really nice chilled out guy with no egotism or superiority complex at all, him and his team were just so passionate about the product and couldn’t do enough to help me out and give me some tips! From that moment on I was a lifelong customer <3

Ahem, okay enough of my personal encounter and back to the brand. OCC is 100% vegan and they preach cruelty free products and are also internationally certified by PETA. These guys are the real Vegan deal unlike some other brands who I feel only make their Products vegan for a Popularity/fashion trend or just to increase their customer base and sell more product. (Seriously though has no one else noticed how Veganism has turned from a life style to a fashion trend recently??)

Lydia pencil and lip tar swatches.
Okay so the lip tar/pencil I’m reviewing today is called Lydia and she’s described as a ‘darkroom plum’ which I’m not going to lie ‘darkroom’ did throw me off a little as I had no idea what that meant but basically Lydia to me is a blackened plum. The Lydia lip pencil is also the exact same shade as the lip tar so it works as the perfect base for the colour or it is equally as stunning on its own.

The pencils are all lacquered white with coloured tips and depending on the shade they either come with a white or black cap, very minimalistic. Pencils come in a small box that is mainly transparent with the ingredients printed in small down the side.

Lydia pencil and lip tar
All Lip tars have a minty smell and taste because they are formulated with peppermint oil, personally I prefer mint to sickly sweet smells so this is a bonus. The Lydia lip pencil is scentless due to the lack of peppermint oil in its mixture so it can be used as an eye pencil too! Bonus!

Lydia today lasted me 5 hours before needing to be patched up after eating lunch but can last a lot longer if you refrain from eating oily/saucy foods. I'm sure you can already see how passionate I am about this brand and Lydia is another success from the collection! Its a beautiful rich colour that's perfect for autumn. Love it!

What do you guys think of OCC Lip tars?
Do you have any problems using them?
